The PTSA Needs You!!!
The following positions are open for the upcoming school year...
The Westfield PTSA needs you!
The Westfield PTSA needs you! We are still seeking interested adults for positions positions including ANGP chairs for 11th & 12 th grades, After Prom, Directory, Legislative, Parent Programs, Special Ed, and Ways & Means. There are numerous ways to get involved and, with most of us working, the tasks do not interfere with a day job! If something piques your curiosity, please ask! Not sure what fits, we'll find the right spot for you.
Getting involved from the beginning is one of the best ways to help your child as well as meet others in the school community and make a big school smaller. Contact me or Suzanne Olijar, at volunteerCoord@westfieldhs.org.
Job Descriptions include:
All of the following volunteer positions can be managed with a full or part time job and during the evening hours. A lot of committee work is handled via email. For all of the below positions, the former committee chairs have substantial notes including more specific time frames and quantities...
ANGP Chairs. We need at least 2 chairpersons from each grade level, 9-12 Ideally the younger grade level volunteers would be in a training mode and able to take over as their student advances grade level. The ANGP is held on the night of graduation in June from 11am-5am. ANGP is a completely self supporting arm of the PTSA. There are many sub-committees in the ANGP including security, advertising, decorations, amusements, mulch sales, ticketing, risk forms, food, casino, prize buying, etc. Deposits for items are made in in the fall, after an initial monthly meeting is held. A lot of committee communications is done via email. This is a fun committee to work with since it involves so many people and it is about keeping our seniors safe on graduation night! Any interested people should attend the ANGP at this year to see what it is all about on Wednesday, June 18 11pm at the school.
Busy Season: Mulch Sale Directors: The mulch sale is held usually during the 3rd quarter of the school year in the spring. This is the ANGP's major fund raiser. Mulch is purchased and delivered to the student parking lot. Committee head works with a large group of volunteers to dispatch rental and loaned trucks for local deliveries. Busy Season: The weekend of mulch delivery, which is scheduled in the spring, as well as the days just prior and after.
After Prom 2009:. Need 2 or more chair people, ideally senior parents. Historically the After Prom party has been held at the local bowling alley, on a Friday or Saturday night, immediately following the prom and lasts until 4:30 am. The cost of the after prom party is included in the prom ticket price to encourage student attendance.
Bulldog BBQ- Need a committee of several people to help with volunteers and work with delegates from the various school booster clubs. The BBQ is the schools "Welcome Back Bash", held on Tuesday, August 26 from 5-8:30pm. Students pick up their back to school packets and schedules at this event, as well as join various clubs, boosters, and pick up gym uniforms. Work on the committee quietly happens over the summer months. The BBQ is the school’s primary fund-raising event for the academic, theater, athletic, choral and music booster groups, and the PTSA, students can also pick up their student schedules and back-to-school packets, PE uniforms, pay class dues, reserve their school yearbooks, and enjoy performances by WHS students.
Bulldog BBQ Silent Auction- held at the BBQ on August, is the PTSA's primary fund raiser. Work commences over the summer months to secure donations from the local business and the Westfield parent community. We have a list of former donors who have contributed over the past several years. A few committee people are needed to set up and "man" the auction the evening of the BBQ. Prizes are distributed the night of the event or the day after. Commitment is done after the BBQ when prizes are awarded and payments are made.
Bulldog Cafe: Ideal for 2 committee people. The Bulldog Cafe is held on each of the 2 back to school nights. from 5-PM in the school cafeteria. Pizza and sub sandwiches are provided (delivered to the school)with a voucher for teachers (who end up being at school for the entire day and evening) and are available to parents and students for a fixed price. Time commitment includes advance phone ordering, minimal cafeteria set up, 2 evenings (3 hours each) at school, and finishing paperwork.
Directory: Works behind the scenes with student data base using computerized directory format from prior years. With the exception of labeling and distribution, which is done with a group of volunteers, the work is done from a home computer. Directory orders are sent home via the back to school packets, and are collected during the beginning of September. Typing skills a must; spread sheet skills helpful, but not required. The goal is to have the directories distributed via students' 7th period classes by mid-October. Additional committee people help with labeling and distribution.
Ethics Day- Held for sophomore class on the Monday before Thanksgiving at the Westfield Marriott. Works with administration in planning of the morning activities as well with the Westfield volunteer coordinators. Prints up volunteer lists and name tags for students and volunteers.
Parent Programs- Helps arrange parent educational programs or other programs of community interest at PTSA meetings or separate sessions. Coordinates activities and communications with the Westfield Community Coalition.
Ways and Means. Manages any fund raiser the PTSA might have- in the past, this has been Barnes and Noble or a fund raiser at a local restaurant.
