Beautification/Landscape Volunteer Help
Earn Community Service Hours
Bring along, gloves, water, and tools, if you have them.
If your club, scout group, or business would like to arrange a special date to help Westfield ‘Keep Going Green’, just email me at landscapeCoord@westfieldhs.org or you can show up at the scheduled dates. All ages welcome (elementary age children must be supervised).
Thanks all the students, parents, and teachers who volunteered to help us clean up the school grounds this fall.
For the past three years Raul Berrios of Rulyscapes, Inc. and his crew have been helping me get the front of the school cleaned up for the BBQ. Our school looks fantastic! If you need landscaping help, give them a call: 703-266-8179 (phone); 703-675-6024 (cell) or visit their web site: http://www.rulyscapes.com/
We have one community service project that I need help on this year. It is
pruning and mulching the numerous trees on the Westfield campus. If you are
a scout (boy or girl) and would be interested in this project, please
contact Mona Miller at
landscapecoord@westfieldhs.org.
One request for the Westfield community, please help us by picking up trash and disposing of it in the trash can. Some of those plastics that are tossed on the ground make their way into our streams and eventually into the Chesapeake Bay. These are harmful to wildlife using our waterways and pollute our drinking water. One person can make a difference.
CLINIC VOLUNTEER HELP
The Westfield HS clinic is in need of parent volunteers, not only to care for sick/injured students, but also to assist with clinic management responsibilities. More information and contact information available on the Westfield HS web site.
SOPHOMORE ETHICS SEMINAR
Each fall, Westfield High School engages sophomore students in a daylong ethics seminar held at the Westfield Marriott. The students are broken into groups and assigned table leaders who guide the students through a variety of ethical decision making dilemmas. A mock trial is also held which is presided over by an active judge. Through these activities, the students begin an in depth journey into making decisions where the answers are not necessarily clear cut. In this day and age of ethical scandals such as those uncovered at Enron, students will begin to develop the critical thinking skills necessary to carry them successfully into adulthood and beyond.
Last year, a wonderful Thanksgiving Day feast was prepared and served to all participants by the Westfield Marriott staff!
This seminar requires approximately 70 adults to act as table leaders and active participants. We have been fortunate to have many members of our business community participate as well as PTSA members! The PTSA is looking to you to volunteer your time at this event. Please contact our volunteer coordinators or sign up!
